The stallion that caught the hearts of many, Pohwah (Eagle)~ Rounded up in early 2015
This gorgeous boy was taken in by B. Grigg on the BLM online auction in April 2015. This 25 year old stud had so much attention that his final winning bid rang to the tune of $1,750! We are told that Pohwah (Eagle) will be kept as a stud to ensure that his bloodlines continue on. This is very exciting news for all California Vaquero horse (Spanish-type Sulphur horse) enthusiasts, as this breed is very rare and new blood is so important to the preservation of this rare, old Iberian breed.
**Update** We have heard news that is both wonderful and sad. Auction winner, B. Grigg has backed out of owning this gorgeous boy for personal reasons and was sent back to the BLM. The BLM, without consideration of the dangers in castrating an old stallion went ahead with the procedure anyways. Sadly, this beautiful boy will no longer be putting foals on the ground to continue his bloodline of the Conquistador's horses. What is wonderful though, is he will be reunited with his family at the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary! He wont have to endure domestication and will get to be back with his loved ones. That is truly wonderful.
